Fencing
The Art of Physical Chess
Welcome to the Fencing CCA. Often described as "Physical Chess," fencing is a unique combat sport that marries athletic capability with intense strategic thinking. It is not just about speed; it is about outsmarting your opponent, making split-second decisions, and maintaining absolute focus under pressure.
Our programme is designed to take students from absolute beginners to competitive athletes, fostering discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship along the way.
The Two Weapons we deal with: Foil & Épée
Fencing consists of three distinct disciplines, each with its own style and rules. However, our students will train in the following 2 weapons:
-
Foil: The most common starting point for fencers. Foil is a tactical game of "Right of Way," where points are scored by landing the tip of the blade on the opponent's torso to chest area. It emphasizes technique and timing.
-
Épée: The "sniper’s game." In Épée, the entire body is the target—from mask to shoe. There are no priority rules; whoever hits first scores. It rewards patience, precision, and calculation.
Key Programmes
Our school takes pride in representing our colors on the national stage. Fencers in our programme train year-round to prepare for key events in the Singapore schools' calendar:
a) National School Games (NSG):
We compete in both the 'C' Division (Lower Secondary) and 'B' Division (Upper Secondary) categories across both genders and weapons, facing established fencing powerhouses such as Raffles Institution, Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore Sports School, and Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). Several of our fencers have successfully advanced from the pools round to the elimination round, with students competing individually in these tournaments.

b) Friendly with Catholic Junior College and Madrasah Al-Arabia AL-Islamiah(MAI)
To ensure our fencers are 'battle-ready' for the upcoming National School Games (NSG), we have arranged a high-intensity friendly match at Catholic Junior College (CJC) alongside CJC and MAI fencers. This session forms a critical part of our pre-season preparation, challenging our students to fence against older, physically stronger A-Division opponents. We aim to expose our fencers to a faster, more aggressive pace than they typically encounter at secondary level, making the actual NSG bouts feel more manageable. The friendly match will test their mental resilience and tactical adaptability when physically outmatched. This preparation will enable them to enter the national circuit with enhanced confidence and sharper reflexes.
